Steadfast

April 28, 2019 by Paul Williams 6 Comments

Thank you Lord for this past week, for the truth of your word. “Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble”.(Psalms 107) Thank you all for walking with us this week and praying for us.

Theresa has had a better week. She didn’t have chemo this week, so she is having more energy. Her cough is improving, chest pain stable, though her acid reflux seems to be a persistent problem. Chemo and the prednisone must be what is setting this in motion.

As a focus for her through these difficult days, we have planned a trip to Disney in the Fall. This will be a constant motivation for her when the days get difficult. She doesn’t want to use a wheelchair, so she will have to start getting in shape soon. With her heart though, she isn’t able to exercise quite yet, though walking on the treadmill slowly without incline she can do – and has once.

She has felt better this week, so we had a date Saturday, went to Taco time, got a few things at Fred Meyer including a mint frappuccino and sat at Borst Park watching families fish. We had a good time connecting and remembering. What an enjoyable time it was, her second outing in 10 weeks. Its good to see she is making ground and can enjoy life again. She definitely is getting cabin fever. Hopefully she will gain in strength over the weeks.

Thursday will start her 3/6 chemo cycles. She is very glad to have the port. The day of and/or the day after she feels pretty terrible. Those days are tolerable, knowing that better days are coming.

We are beyond thankful that the pericardial effusion hasn’t returned, and that her rapid decline has stopped and she is making gains each week. If she continues to improve as she does, she should be able to make it to the Fall and past, God willing. We can only take one day at a time, though still plan, knowing that God is in control.

The sunny days, the newness of spring and the brilliance of colors help boost the spirit.

The assurance of Psalms 107 is to be counted on. “Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble…They cried out to the LORD in their trouble and he delivered them from their distress…For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things…they cried out to the LORD in their trouble and he delivered them from their distress…Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble and he deliver them from their distress…Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the LORD”. He is to be counted on, His words ring true, He is the solid rock on which we stand.

Thank you Father for being our rock, walking with us and allowing us to see and enjoy your beauty in the midst of the pain. Thank you all for your continued prayers (which are vital), and for your kind words and thoughts.

Continuing to pray for strength to carry you through, and that full healing may be possible if it be the Lord’s will.

About Doctor Paul

Dr. Paul Williams, MD is a small-town family practice doctor working in Centralia, Washington. He works from the same office where his primary care practice was established by his father over 38 years ago. He believes strongly that the art of the old-fashioned primary care doctor is an important feature of our medical system that should be preserved and protected from excess interference from insurance companies and government regulation alike.

Due to changes in the health care industry and regulations affecting it, and in an effort to preserve the art of old-fashioned primary care, Dr. Paul has shifted his practice to a Direct Care model, meaning that patients pay an affordable monthly fee to purchase primary care health care services directly, rather than having their services billed through an insurance company.

This blog is intended to help Dr. Paul's patients (and anyone else!) understand the changes the medical industry is going through, and to provide information about the Direct Care model of primary care.
