Missing in action

Well many of you have wondered how it is going. Have we been successful or are we going under. Transitions are always difficult and take some time before things settle down. We moved to a new electronic medical record, new lab company, significantly less staff, new online fax company, and many other changes. We have had to come up with new processes, and figure out how to adjust with the changes efficiently. We have made great headway.

The practice started with a bang as well in January. Not only did we have to work through new processes and issues that arose, we also were very busy with patients, with the majority of our appointments filling up with patients. We have 700 patients who have either stayed with us or found out about us and signed up. We will probably end enrollment when we get to 1000 to 1200 patients. We have enjoyed the extra time with patients, and they have also commented on the more relaxed atmosphere. A good number of our patients have benefited from lower prescriptions costs, with the savings paying for their monthly membership.

In time I will have more to say, but for now I just wanted to let you know we are alive and well and are successful because of all of you who have joined us.

About Doctor Paul

Dr. Paul Williams, MD is a small-town family practice doctor working in Centralia, Washington. He works from the same office where his primary care practice was established by his father over 38 years ago. He believes strongly that the art of the old-fashioned primary care doctor is an important feature of our medical system that should be preserved and protected from excess interference from insurance companies and government regulation alike.

Due to changes in the health care industry and regulations affecting it, and in an effort to preserve the art of old-fashioned primary care, Dr. Paul has shifted his practice to a Direct Care model, meaning that patients pay an affordable monthly fee to purchase primary care health care services directly, rather than having their services billed through an insurance company.

This blog is intended to help Dr. Paul's patients (and anyone else!) understand the changes the medical industry is going through, and to provide information about the Direct Care model of primary care.
