Energy enough for canning, what a blessing

Thank you Father for the good week, for wisdom from above and the help we need each day. Thank you all for walking with us and holding us up in prayer.

Theresa went to see the surgeon for her second post op check and she is healing fine and her swelling is going down. Then on Tuesday she went to a GI appointment. Then Thursday she had her Herceptin infusion and we had an appt with her oncologist. Her oncologist believes the next step is for Theresa to have radiation to the right breast and axilla, either daily for 6 weeks, or a higher dose for three weeks, which is done in Canada. He believes this will significantly improve her chances, from around a 30% local recurrence rate, down to 3%. He still coming at this that Theresa was really stage 3 and not stage 4, believing the changes seen on the CT and MRI of her liver pretreatment were not cancer since her liver enzymes were not elevated and the post treatment MRI was so clean. What ever it is, stage 3 has a much better outcome than stage 4. We will know in about a year or so if he is right or not. (though as we know, God has answered prayer, and this may be more proof of it). So far the oncologist has been right on in his aggressive decisions. He has decided to stay with Herceptin until next June, and after radiation start her on anti-estrogens. Next week Theresa sees the radiation oncologist, sees GI again, and probably will start radiation.

Theresa’s energy is up and down. We canned peaches a week or so ago and she did great, but it wiped her out for a few days. This weekend we made apple sauce with a couple boxes of gravenstein apples, so she is tired today. Theresa is up each day, exercises some days, getting the kids ready for school, and working in the kitchen. She probably is at 50% of her previous energy level most days, and others less.

We have been blessed beyond measure. We have felt God’s lovingkindness and His faithfulness. May your prayers continue. May you have a blessed holiday weekend.

Canning is a great accomplishment for Theresa. I’ve been doing some myself this week and it takes a lot of work even when one is healthy. We still pray daily for her continued strength and healing, and for you and the children. God is smiling down at you.

About Doctor Paul

Dr. Paul Williams, MD is a small-town family practice doctor working in Centralia, Washington. He works from the same office where his primary care practice was established by his father over 38 years ago. He believes strongly that the art of the old-fashioned primary care doctor is an important feature of our medical system that should be preserved and protected from excess interference from insurance companies and government regulation alike.

Due to changes in the health care industry and regulations affecting it, and in an effort to preserve the art of old-fashioned primary care, Dr. Paul has shifted his practice to a Direct Care model, meaning that patients pay an affordable monthly fee to purchase primary care health care services directly, rather than having their services billed through an insurance company.

This blog is intended to help Dr. Paul's patients (and anyone else!) understand the changes the medical industry is going through, and to provide information about the Direct Care model of primary care.
