Better Days Ahead

April 17, 2016 by Paul Williams 14 Comments

Thank you LORD for answering prayers and being with us this past week. Thank you for providing so wonderfully for our needs. Thank you for all your prayers, thoughts, and cards.

I left you hanging last week wondering if Theresa was still suffering as she had been. Each 24 hours can be much different from the previous 24 hours. The roller coaster continues, but this has been a good week. From Monday onward Theresa started to improve. Monday she spend the day in her recliner chair, rather than in the bed. By Tuesday she only had 2/10 abdominal pain, was eating some and drinking enough fluids to keep from being dehydrated. As the week progressed, she did better and better and spent most of the day down stairs, yesterday even helped our daughter with some of her school work. Thursday she made stir-fry for dinner and Saturday went with me to pick up my dad and our youngest son at the airport. Her turn around has been fairly rapid. She is able to read, watch some shows and laugh with the kids. This is a vast improvement. Thank you all for your prayers, for they have been answered. We are still hoping to have the numbness in her face, hands and feet resolve and for her abdomen to start working on its own without help. The deep bone pain and miserable electrical shocks are gone. This is definitely doable. Here endurance should improve each week from here on out, since she will only be getting the receptor blockers, which don’t cause the symptoms she has been having. Next week she will be getting the two receptor blockers without the chemo. She should not experience any debilitating side effects (though Theresa seems to have the rare side effects show up).

God has been so good. He has been with us from the low of the previous two weeks, to stability and the hope for further improvement. He has been our rock and continues to be. I’ll share some of my readings this week: “There is no shortcut to a life of faith”, “God uses many sharp-cutting instruments, and polishes His jewels with files that are rough.” (Charles Spurgeon), “The strength of our faith is in direct proportion to our level of belief that God will do exactly what He has promised…Faith rests on the pure Word of God alone. And when we take Him at His Word, our hearts are at peace. God delights in causing us to exercise our faith…Trials are the food of faith…Then when trials come, we will say, “I will patiently wait to see the good God will do in my life, with the calm assurance He will do it…bear a worthy testimony to the world and thereby strengthen the lives of others” (George Mueller). And lastly, God “knows no fear, and He expects you to fear nothing while He is with you.” (Annie Porter Johnson).

May your faith be strengthened as ours have been, for God is good all the time. We are grateful and humbled that He truly walks with us in ALL life’s circumstances. We are so focused on time, seasons, circumstances, on moods, age, and change. We project our view of life onto Him, when the fact is, He IS. He is outside of time, the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. His word NEVER fails, his WORD can be completely counted on. He is the ONLY constant in our lives, never changing, not distracted, not changing with the tide of opinion. I am so thankful that He has invited us into this sweat communion with Him.

God has been answering many prayers lately. I went into the hospital of a cold versus that trigger my diabetics, ketoacidsis in which 28 years have passed by from this disease. Dr. Fisk stayed I’m good for another 28 years, that would make me 94! I am always happy to see that your Teresa is doing well each day, that God’s healing hands are on her. God bless your wife and your family!

About Doctor Paul

Dr. Paul Williams, MD is a small-town family practice doctor working in Centralia, Washington. He works from the same office where his primary care practice was established by his father over 38 years ago. He believes strongly that the art of the old-fashioned primary care doctor is an important feature of our medical system that should be preserved and protected from excess interference from insurance companies and government regulation alike.

Due to changes in the health care industry and regulations affecting it, and in an effort to preserve the art of old-fashioned primary care, Dr. Paul has shifted his practice to a Direct Care model, meaning that patients pay an affordable monthly fee to purchase primary care health care services directly, rather than having their services billed through an insurance company.

This blog is intended to help Dr. Paul's patients (and anyone else!) understand the changes the medical industry is going through, and to provide information about the Direct Care model of primary care.
