A chemo free week

May 18, 2019 by Paul Williams 6 Comments

Thank you Father for your steadfast love that never fails, for your promises that are to be counted on. Thank you all for your prayers.

No chemo this week. Theresa really enjoys the week without chemo, the break is necessary. She isn’t sure she wants to go to a lower dose every week for then she won’t get the reprieve. We continue to go down on her prednisone for her pericarditis. We have tried dropping her pain pills but the heart and gut pain get pretty intense. She went out today with my mom to get some graduation supplies. She wasn’t gone much more than an hour, but that pretty much wiped her out. She has put on make up a few times the past week, an encouraging sign. The treadmill has stayed quite though this past month. For the most part Her spirits have stayed up. Theresa understands perseverance. She fell a few days ago onto her tailbone, had a couple of slower painful days, but is feeling better now.

We are two weeks away from the first milestone Theresa wanted to reach. Our third son graduates from high school ,and our first son will get his AA. I would ask prayer for Theresa as it will be a very long day for her. She just doesn’t have the stamina yet.

We all have seasons of life. Some seasons, like the one we are in, we sense God’s closeness, His arms of comfort, and see Him show up right on time. And in times like this, some verses stand out more than at other times. [God] “set His seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come” 2 Corin 1:22 (NIV). In the Amplified version “….certified us as His…giving us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge …guarantee the fulfillment of His promise of eternal life”. In this time, we feel his claim on us, his pledge and his promises. We see his working, we feel his peace. Despite this being a hard time, God comes through and solidifies His hold on us. He makes the invisible visible, what we believe in faith to be a sure thing. He truly builds our faith in tough times.

Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.

About Doctor Paul

Dr. Paul Williams, MD is a small-town family practice doctor working in Centralia, Washington. He works from the same office where his primary care practice was established by his father over 38 years ago. He believes strongly that the art of the old-fashioned primary care doctor is an important feature of our medical system that should be preserved and protected from excess interference from insurance companies and government regulation alike.

Due to changes in the health care industry and regulations affecting it, and in an effort to preserve the art of old-fashioned primary care, Dr. Paul has shifted his practice to a Direct Care model, meaning that patients pay an affordable monthly fee to purchase primary care health care services directly, rather than having their services billed through an insurance company.

This blog is intended to help Dr. Paul's patients (and anyone else!) understand the changes the medical industry is going through, and to provide information about the Direct Care model of primary care.
