A Grief Observed

Thank you Father for your grace and tender mercy. Thank you all for your prayers.

For over a week now Theresa has been on the anti-androgen medication. She saw her oncologist who thought if it was to work, she would have had a more dramatic response. On Monday he will add one more anti-androgen pill, and see if the two together make a difference. If not, then I suspect he will stop both. In the mean time, Theresa again has stabilized. She is not getting worse, which is nice to see. Her coughing persists, though she has times of quiet. Her energy level is pretty low, sitting in her chair most the day. The prednisone is puffing her up, which she struggles with and the chest pain persists. No changes in this department.

We have set up an Echo in the early part of September and if the fluid around her heart is enlarging, then she will have it drained so Theresa will be in the best condition to make it on our trip to Disney, which continues to be a focus. After we return, we will have to address how we are going to move forward. But right now the focus is the trip.

We are grateful for each day we have been given. God provides the rest when it is needed, renewal, comfort and peace. He also provides friends, distractions, and joys in each day. God is good all the time.

Douglas Gresham, stepson of C.S. Lewis writes in the introduction to C.S. Lewis’s book A grief Observed: “..The soaring joy which is the finding and winning of the mate whom God has prepared for us; and the crushing blow, the loss, which is Satan’s corruption of that great gift of loving and being loved.” And “all human relationships end in pain – it is the price that our imperfection has allowed Satan to exact from us for the privilege of love… the greater the love the greater the grief, and the stronger the faith the more savagely will Satan storm its fortress.”

I am thankful for the gift of love, our teacher, who transforms us and makes life worth living. And I wouldn’t trade it to avoid these past years of anguish and pain. Love is what makes it all worth while.

Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.

    I continue to pray. The Holy Spirit knows all our needs. The Father knows our frame–He remembers that we are dust. Yet, every hair on our head is numbered. Jesus lives that we too can live eternally with our Holy, Triune God. This is not our home. Our citizenship is in heaven, for eternity. 1 Chronicles 29 says:
    Blessed are You, Lord God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever.
    Yours, O Lord, is the greatness,
    The power and the glory,
    The victory and the majesty;
    For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours;
    Yours is the kingdom, O Lord,
    And You are exalted as head over all.
    And we praise Your glorious name.
    For all things come from You,
    And of Your own we have given You.
    For we are aliens and pilgrims before You,
    As were all our fathers;

    We continue to pray for Theresa and the family, lifting God’s word to him. Jeremiah says “he waits to perform his word.” So we lift his word to him….his promises…we stand with HIM, we ask…for healing…Lord, we ask you make Theresa well, as only you can….we do what we can, but we trust in you…Ps 103:3 You are the God that healeth all our diseases. You are the glory and the lifter of our head, our refugee, our deliverer…Amen.

  5. LaVerne Haslett says

    Today Lord, we come with a simple prayer….because you simply say “you have not because you ask not. We simply ask for a complete miracle healing for Theresa….for YOUR glory, that your glory might be shown in all the earth, that men every where might see the mighty works you have done and be drawn to you…to receive your great salvation. Your name is wonderful, peace of peace…and your name is Rapha…our healer!! Amen!
